John Sifert has hit another home run!

As a reader I was captivated from the beginning. I kept turning the pages as fast as I could read to find out what was going to happen next. This compelling story maintained my interest throughout AND taught me so much about certain aspects of Spanish culture. Honestly, I was disappointed when it ended. BUT, since I have read the first two of John Sifert's books, I know there will be more!

As a teacher... Wow. There is so much to pull out of this story to create "sidebars" in class: the different cities mentioned in Spain, the various landmarks... The culture is naturally embedded in the story. Ah-MAZE-ing! Not wanting to give it away, but the whole mention of secret societies and how they exist in the world provides ample opportunity for interesting discussion in the language class.

As an author, I marvel at the way John Sifert is able to connect one story to the next. This story can be read as a stand alone, but will be enhanced so much more with the reading of the first and second books in the series. Mr. Sifert is a master at the mystery and at being able to incorporate so many characters - all with distinct personalities and characteristics. And, if book aesthetics is your thing, this one is worth it: it is beautifully formatted with spectacular illustrations by Emma Vickers.

Overall, this is not only an excellent addition to a teacher's FVR library, it is also worthy of a whole-class novel for the Spanish language class. John Sifert is masterful in his craft.
